About the CamSIS Project

CamSIS is the University's new comprehensive and integrated Student Information System. It has been developed to meet the changing needs of the University, its staff and students for the next 10 years and beyond.

The Project So Far

Central Admissions were the first offices to use CamSIS as the System went live in October 2004. This was followed in October 2005 by Student Records (including Examinations), Student Financials, the Institute of Continuing Education, the Faculty of Education, three Colleges and five Departments. Five more Colleges followed in 2006.

Statutory returns required for external HE bodies, such as HEFCE and HESA, are now produced using CamSIS. All Colleges are using CamSIS for Examination Enrolment and Part II Admissions to Restricted Subjects, and last year over 14,000 students enrolled on examinations on-line using the software.

Future Plans

The Project will introduce the software to the remaining Colleges and Departments. Going forward, the system will be constantly reviewed to ensure that the future business needs of the University, its Departments, the Colleges and the Students will be met.

CamSIS Processes

The following key business processes are supported by CamSIS:

  • Processing undergraduate and postgraduate Admissions, including on-line graduate applications and tracking.
  • Matriculation of students.
  • Fee Billing including SLC data.
  • Course catalogue and management of classes for the Board of Examinations, ICE and the Faculty of Education.
  • On-line Examination Enrolment and Electronic Entry Validation.
  • Part II Admissions to Restricted Subjects.
  • Validation of Personal data.
  • Transcript and certificate production, including an on-line Unofficial Transcript.
  • Grading, including the ability for students to view their grades on-line.
  • Graduation.
  • Reporting.
  • HESA and HEFCE returns including the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education return.

The CamSIS system is supported by a Live Operations group that is comprised of members of the Functional team, Technical team, Training team and the Helpdesk.

More detailed information about the Project, the System and its benefits is available to users on the University network.
